Food on Foot means that we are not ignoring an endemic we see every day as we walk from the office, to the car. Instead of saying "sorry, we don't have change" or handing out a $5 bill, we are helping the homeless to MAKE A CHANGE to their situation. Food on Foot is the only organization that we believe makes a long-term difference in the lives of the homeless by helping them help themselves and returning to them what they have lost-their confidence and hope.
I like the fact that we can see our contribution in the people that line up for a meal, the green shirts who dutifully clean our city’s streets, the grey shirts who have a job and a roof over their heads, and those who continue as volunteers long after they have graduated.
My favorite experience is when a graduate shared her testimony and displayed a gratitude beyond anything I have ever seen. It really put things into perspective for me and made me so grateful to play a small part in her life, and the lives of others.
Food on Foot is a phenomenal organization which is driven by the passion to make a long-term difference in the lives of those who are in need. It was built on a solid foundation of providing consistent service that goes beyond merely providing food and clothing. The organization assists those who are willing to put in the work to become (or once again become) taxpayers and contributing members of our community. Every aspect of the program is extremely well thought out and delivered in an unbelievably consistent manner.
I like being able to see the immediate gratification in the eyes of those we serve. Especially when it comes to the clothing donations. Instead of bagging our clothes and dropping them in a donation bin, we lay the clothing out and are able to assist while that day’s attendees select what they need.
At the servings, listening to the stories of those whose lives have been changed as a direct result of the Food on Foot program never gets old. It is a constant reminder of the good in the world and that hard work is always rewarded.
