logoFood on Foot is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (Tax-ID#31-1581053) dedicated to providing the poor and homeless of Los Angeles with nutritious meals, clothing, and assistance in the transition to employment and life off the streets.

Food on Foot operates a weekly meal program every Sunday in Hollywood. Food on Foot began in March 1996 as one man's response to the hunger he witnessed among the poor and homeless of Hollywood. What initially began as the distribution of meals from the trunk of a car has grown through the dedication of its volunteers and now serves more than 200 meals each week to homeless, disabled, elderly and low-income adults and children. more about us >

Volunteers of the Week

Charles & Mele Black - $98 Club Members - 12/14/2014

Food on Foot means that we are not ignoring an endemic we see every day as we walk from the office, to the car. Instead of saying "sorry, we don't have change" or handing out a $5 bill, we are helping the homeless to MAKE A CHANGE to their situation. Food on Foot is the only organization that we believe makes a long-term difference in the lives of the homeless by helping them help themselves and returning to them what they have lost-their confidence and hope.

I like the fact that we can see our contribution in the people that line up for a meal, the green shirts who dutifully clean our city’s streets, the grey shirts who have a job and a roof over their heads, and those who continue as volunteers long after they have graduated.

My favorite experience is when a graduate shared her testimony and displayed a gratitude beyond anything I have ever seen. It really put things into perspective for me and made me so grateful to play a small part in her life, and the lives of others.
-Mele

Food on Foot is a phenomenal organization which is driven by the passion to make a long-term difference in the lives of those who are in need. It was built on a solid foundation of providing consistent service that goes beyond merely providing food and clothing. The organization assists those who are willing to put in the work to become (or once again become) taxpayers and contributing members of our community. Every aspect of the program is extremely well thought out and delivered in an unbelievably consistent manner.

I like being able to see the immediate gratification in the eyes of those we serve. Especially when it comes to the clothing donations. Instead of bagging our clothes and dropping them in a donation bin, we lay the clothing out and are able to assist while that day’s attendees select what they need.

At the servings, listening to the stories of those whose lives have been changed as a direct result of the Food on Foot program never gets old. It is a constant reminder of the good in the world and that hard work is always rewarded.
-Charles

Sponsor a Hollywood Serving

Would you like to bring a group of your workers, friends, etc. to a Sunday Hollywood serving? We have groups of 20-30 volunteers that wish to volunteer for a specific date. A donation of $2500 covers all of the costs of food and food gift cards for our Work for Food crew. This donation will allow your group to participate in every part of our Sunday activities and your group will be the ONLY volunteers for that day. Cynthia A. Becomes Full Time Taxpayer

Cynthia A. was recently presented with her PHD (passion, hunger, desire) certificate. She is now fully employed at Napa Valley Grill in Westwood and is another successful graduate of our Work for Food program that turns tax burdens into taxpayers every month.

Food on Foot Wins $10,000

Over a 3-week period, FOF competed against 9 other California nonprofits and received the most online votes, winning a $10,000 grant for our Work for Food program through the Clearinghouse CDFI Challenge. We're so grateful to everyone who voted daily and spread the word to friends, family, and colleagues. A special thanks goes out to our friend and long-time supporter - Neil Patrick Harris - who wrote "So glad you won. So glad I could help. So glad you continue to do what you do."

Work for Food

Each Sunday afternoon 40-50 homeless and poor individuals participate in our trash clean up program. This is the first step in their attempt to increase confidence and ultimately obtain a full time job and housing. We are proud that so many have graduated our program and are now completely self-supporting and off all government assistance.
