logoFood on Foot is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (Tax-ID#31-1581053) dedicated to providing the poor and homeless of Los Angeles with nutritious meals, clothing, and assistance in the transition to employment and life off the streets.

Food on Foot operates a weekly meal program every Sunday in Hollywood. Food on Foot began in March 1996 as one man's response to the hunger he witnessed among the poor and homeless of Hollywood. What initially began as the distribution of meals from the trunk of a car has grown through the dedication of its volunteers and now serves more than 200 meals each week to homeless, disabled, elderly and low-income adults and children. more about us >

Food on Foot to me is a second chance based on results. When someone is really ready to change their situation they will do what is required to make that change happen no matter the task that is asked of them. Food on Foot is truly a hand up and not a hand out.
What I like most about Food on Foot is that it gets results and it works. This program is not dependent on the government; which means no governmental bureaucracy and delays. It started with one man in a truck trying to help and getting it done. Now that same man is still out there helping with some like minded people backing him up for a worthwhile cause.

The first time I was at Food on Foot I stayed around to watch the award ceremony. I saw a young lady get worker of the week, which awarded her a bus pass for a month I believe. I saw this woman break down in tears and it touched my heart that something I take for granted could mean so much to another human being, and the gratitude this lady had for that bus pass was just so real and heart felt. It was amazing.

We need volunteers to help serve food to the homeless and poor in Hollywood

Spend 90 minutes with us on a Sunday beginning at 3:15pm and help cheer up the lives of the homeless and poor in Hollywood.

Along with our food weekly food serving we have a very unique program called Work for Food where the homeless collect trash from the streets of Hollywood and earn food gift cards from fast food restaurants and grocery stores. Many have graduated our program and now have full-time jobs that enable them to pay for their own food and housing, and are no longer in need of any government assistance.

If you have any questions call us at 310-860-0022.

Chad H Becomes Full Time Taxpayer

Chad H. was presented with his PHD (passion, hunger, desire) certificate on Sunday March 9. He is now fully employed at Jillians in Universal City and is another successful graduate of our Work for Food program that turns tax burdens into taxpayers every month.

Food on Foot Wins $10,000

Over a 3-week period, FOF competed against 9 other California nonprofits and received the most online votes, winning a $10,000 grant for our Work for Food program through the Clearinghouse CDFI Challenge. We're so grateful to everyone who voted daily and spread the word to friends, family, and colleagues. A special thanks goes out to our friend and long-time supporter - Neil Patrick Harris - who wrote "So glad you won. So glad I could help. So glad you continue to do what you do."

Work for Food

Each Sunday afternoon 40-50 homeless and poor individuals participate in our trash clean up program. This is the first step in their attempt to increase confidence and ultimately obtain a full time job and housing. We are proud that so many have graduated our program and are now completely self-supporting and off all government assistance.
