The vision and mission of Food on Foot really resonates with me. I am a strong believer in the power of the human spirit and the idea that volunteering is not about helping people but rather working with individuals to improve their situation in life.To me, that is exactly what Food on Foot stands for as the program empowers individuals to seek support and build the needed self-confidence to change their situation through hard work and dedication.
The hard work and dedication was on full display during my visit and was awe inspiring. Having been fortunate enough to witness the promotion of a volunteer to a ‘Grey Shirt’ I was moved by the sense of accomplishment exhibited by the program participants for each other. I feel fortunate to be in a position to support the program and look forward to getting to know and working with the impressive collection of individuals who are making a real choice to better their future.
Food on foot means giving someone a hands up instead of a hand out. I like that it is independent and strives to instill that in its clients. I have only been twice but I was touched by the politeness of those receiving meals.
